Glossary of Catholic things (and things to do with Catholics and Catholicism)
Yes, we know it is a long and complicated title. The Catholic Church does hold some things exclusively, but it does not have a restrictive monopoly on truth. (there is also a minor franchising issue and one runs into Canon Law.)
This glossary is being developed as a series to be run through the newsletters of a parish through the weeks of Ordinary Time 2026. Where the number of items exceeds the space provided, the items omitted will be noted and added at the end of the year. Where corrections are necessary, they will be provided on the reverse of the newsletter. Where topics are particularly sensitive or nuanced, references to source material and suggested further readings are provided in due course.
The idea of the glossary came from one of our team. Being brought to this space we have agreed to all help out. So, you can also follow the glossary as it is assembled here (cannedreligion.net) and on Instagram @cannedreligion
Disclaimer: While every effort has been made to adhere to orthodoxy, no nihil obstat has been sought or obtained. As such, we do not claim to represent the views of the Catholic Church. We remain open to good and proper fraternal correction. The best way would be to comment on the pages, Instagram pots, or send us a message here.
Between us, we have multiple degrees in theology and education, decades of experience in parishes and schools, and a fair bit of life experience to boot. So, let’s start at the very beginning… apparently it’s a very good place to start.
